Types of Mentor/Coaching   [top]

  • For Apprenticeship: The Apprenticeship Program is a structured mentor/coaching relationship that usually lasts two years. Apprentices must be registered in IdahoSTARS Professional Development System. Apprentices are child care providers and/or directors who are pursuing degrees in Early Childhood Education Education and are working at least 25 hours per week in a licensed child care facility. The Apprentice meets weekly with a mentor/coach who has at least five years of experience as a child care provider and who has a degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field. The goal is to integrate the knowledge gained in the college classroom with hands-on application in the child care setting.

  • For Individual Project: Individual Projects are often requested by child care providers and directors. Individual Projects are short-term (usually 10 sessions or less) projects that focus on accomplishing specific goals. Individual Project Mentor/Coaching is requested for the accomplishment of a variety of goals such as: improving business practices, marketing, curriculum development, room arrangement, developmentally appropriate practice, etc. Individual Projects are also available to support directors in receiving nationally recognixzed accreditation.

  • For Child Care Health Consultation: Child Care Health Consultants are highly trained Mentor/Coaches who are available to work with child care providers and directors in creating optimally healthy and safe child care environments for the children and families whom they serve.

  • For the Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS): QRIS Mentor/Coaches work with program directors and owners to support them in successfully completing the QRIS process. They provide support in creating and completing important QRIS documents such as: the Application for a Facility Profile, an Improvement Plan, a Funding Request and an Application for a Star Rating. For more information on the IdahoSTARS Quality Rating and Improvement System visit our QRIS web page.
